In late March 2010, the US President Barack Obama will visit Indonesia. President Obama, as is widely known, spent 3-4 years of his childhood in Jakarta. During those formative years, Obama was certainly influenced by opinions and actions of Indonesian teachers and fellow students as well as neighborhood friends. Can such experiences be expected to give a unique understanding and perspective of Indonesia to the President of the United States of America, the sole remaining superpower nation in the world? With Indonesia being the 4th most populous nation in the world and the nation with the largest Muslim population in the world, would President Obama place a high priority within his developing global strategy for Indonesia?
PPIA (Perhimpunan Persahabatan Indonesia-Amerika) in collaboration with the US Embassy holds a Panel Discussion Forum on:
“The Significance of President Obama’s Visit toward US-Indonesia Bilateral Relations”

This forum hopes to stimulate discussion among Indonesian youth by presenting a series of video interviews with former teachers and friends who had direct, personal contact the young, impressionable Obama with the nickname of “Barry.” Following the video interviews, a stimulating presentation will be made by a former participant in the PPIA-Voice of America Newscaster Fellowship Program who will provide insights into working in the US with the impressions of American public toward Indonesia, and vice versa.
