Considering the needs of our students to practice their English outside the classroom, LBPP LIA Pramuka decided to set up an extra-curricular activity that can give medium for students, especially the EC students, to develop their language skills. LIA Pramuka then worked together with C’nS Junior to start Junior Journalist program which is specially designed for EC students.
In semester II/08-09, LBPP LIA Pramuka started the program with 16 participants from EC 4-6 levels. The program aims to teach participants how to find sources of news, how to write articles for magazine, and of course how to use their English competence in speaking (interviewing) and writing (writing articles).
The program offered journalism workshop in the classroom, field trips to the magazine and publisher, and field practice in Dufan, Ancol. The workshop was given by journalists from C’nS Junior Magazine. After the participants completed the whole program, their work would be published in C’nS Junior Magazine. They were also given a certificate from the program.
This program got positive responses from participants and their parents. Participants could benefit a lot from this activity such as practicing their English, getting knowledge about journalistics, and building their confidence by interviewing sources. Because of that, LBPP LIA Pramuka will make this program as a regular program.
